When the Lighthouse is YOU: Trusting Intuition in the Fog

There are moments in life when you’re in a rowboat, the sky is overcast, and there’s no sign of land. There’s no wind. There’s no map. There are no navigation tools.

In these momentswhen no lighthouse appears on the horizonyou realize you are the lighthouse.

Not because you have all the answers, but because you carry the light inside you.

Not because you always know where you’re going, but because you have the courage to keep showing up even in the dark.

🌬️ The Fog: When Clarity Evaporates

Fog in life isn’t always dramatic, although it can be. Sometimes it’s a low-grade sense of feeling lost, confused, turned around. It can linger after a difficult breakup, career change, or spiritual awakening. Other times, it may be grief, burnout, inner restlessness that you can’t quite pinpoint.

We all experience these seasons of fog, and this is the time logic fails us. We turn to others, hoping they can anchor our decisions by using their lighthouse. We yearn for certainty.

Here’s the truth: NO ONE else is sailing your vessel.

And no one else can navigate you to the shoreline.

So, when the fog is thick and you doubt your ability, remember your mission: the Lighthouse is YOU.

🔦 Becoming the Light

The fog can create darkness and disorientation. You may not see five feet in front of you. This is when intuition becomes the cultivated skill that guides you. It is THE way.

Here’s the thing about intuition: it isn’t about forcing clarity, answers, and demanding your expectations be met.

Intuition is about creating quiet. Stillness. It’s about slowing down your busy mind, attending to your physical body, and listening to the nuances of your soul.

The lighthouse in you is always available. It just doesn’t always feel accessible. So, when the fog rolls in, breathe. Wait. Breathe more. Wait again. Repeat.

>> Here are 3 mind-body-soul practices to help you become your own lighthouse <<

1. Still the Waters (Body)

Your body, the nervous system, is like the seawhen it’s turbulent, it cannot reflect the sky. The rough waters, your stress, anxiety, etc generate additional challenges. The trick is to notice as soon as possible when you are dysregulated and

Try this:

  • Place one hand on your chest and the other hand on your belly.
  • Take 3 slow, deep breaths, focusing on a slow exhale.
  • Feel the rise and fall of the inhale and exhale. Anchor your body into the surface beneath you.

This can help ground you when your body feels stormy.

2. Tune Inward (Mind)

When we experience dense or prolonged fog, the tendency is to seek counsel from others. Sometimes, outside information can create a break in the fog and allow us to inquire deeper. Sometimes, it can create an over-reliance on others and thicken the fog.

– Try this journal prompt:

“What do I know in my bones, even if I can’t explain it?”

Don’t overthink it. Write it down. No editing. This is your internal compass speaking.

3. Shine Anyway (Soul)

The thing about lighthouses is that they don’t move toward the boats. They stand firm, tall, and shine brightly.

The Lighthouse (aka YOU) was created to shine in all of who you are so that others can see the possibility. Shining doesn’t mean having all the answersit’s about presence, authenticity, and alignment.

– Practice this:

Meditate. Light a candle. Sit in silence. Offer yourself the same attention you’d give a friend who is lost in the fog.

Sometimes your soul whispers in the wind. Sometimes it roars like a raging storm. The point is to LISTEN.

🌟 You’ve Been Here Before

This likely isn’t the first time you’ve felt lost, turned around, or disoriented. And yet here you are. Still afloat. Still navigating. Still becoming.

There will be times when your light flickers. Times when it is blindingly bright. It’s all okay. Even lighthouses go dim at times, needing maintenance. What matters is that you keep tending the light.

💬 Closing Reflection

You do not have to see the whole map to take the right next step. You just have to trust that the light inside you is real and can be accessed. So, the next time the fog rolls in, don’t panic. Still the waters and take 3 deep breaths, tune inward and inquire within “what do I know in my bones”, and shine anyway by meditating in silence.
