What is Radical Responsibility?

Taking ownership is a mental practice called internal locus of control. Internal locus of control is a psychological concept that refers to the belief that individuals have control over their own lives and outcomes. People with an internal locus of control believe that their actions, decisions, and efforts influence their experiences.
There’s also external locus of control, which is a psychological concept that refers to the belief that external forces, such as luck, fate, or other people, control one’s life and outcomes. Individuals with an external locus of control often attribute their successes and failures to factors beyond their control.
Teaching internal locus of control, I mention the things we can all agree are within our control to some extent: our breath, our thought patterns, our bodily movements, the food we eat, where we focus attention. This is also radical responsibility.
